Returning from a good vacation is a little like waking up from a good nap.
Just a few shots from my vacation, I’ll be writing here about creativity and crafting and balance again soon. At the moment, though, balance means doing the laundry and falling into bed.

“Meditation at Lagunitas”
Robert Hass
All the new thinking is about loss.
In this it resembles all the old thinking.
The idea, for example, that each particular erases
the luminous clarity of a general idea. That the clown-
faced woodpecker probing the dead sculpted trunk
of that black birch is, by his presence,
some tragic falling off from a first world
of undivided light. [...]

I’m on vacation– a friend’s wedding, a week at Martha’s Vineyard with a huge group of dear old friends– and will be away from this space for a week or so.
Cheers!

“Layover”
by Robert Hass
Thin snow falling on the runway at Anchorage,
bundled bodies of men, grey padded jackets, outsized gloves,

among the scattering of luggage carts, hard at what must be
half the world’s work, loading and unloading.

I Have a Problem With Books
June 19th, 2008 · No Comments

Stitching At Last
June 16th, 2008 · 1 Comment
I took this photo outside our apt building this AM and now all my neighbors must think I’m crazy– tying an apron to a fence at 8 AM…
I’ve been looking for a stitching art to do for a while now. My mother is an amazing quilter and, when she was much younger, did [...]

Let’s Get Going
June 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments
This feels a little like stepping up to a microphone in the spotlight– I can’t quite see you but I sense that there must be somebody out there. Maybe even a lot of somebodies.
In my day job I do a lot of writing, I am a grad student after all, but I don’t get [...]
