Yesterday I got my Sioux Falls, SD library card. Maybe I’ll be admitting how nerdy I am, but I now have three active library cards: Washington DC, University, and Sioux Falls. Frankly, my priority when I move to a new city is find the central library and get my library card. I usually do this before I even go to the DMV or deal with the utility companies.
This time, though, I actually had a reason to go to the library– it wasn’t just my obsession with having loads of books around at all times. I’m going to be working on some pod/vodcasts while I’m out here and I needed to pick up a few books to refresh my digital video memory. Its been years since I took my video classes…
Also I’m starting to think that visiting America’s major central libraries might be a really fun project. I’ve already been to Portland’s, Seattle’s, San Francisco’s, Los Angeles’, DC’s, and Dallas’. Someday I want to see the NYC library and stay at the Library Hotel. Actually, this feels like a book waiting to happen. There must be a book about America’s libraries– so many of them are so pretty: Art Deco or stained glass or whatever.
I think that if Jon and I ever go on that trip it’ll be like when we went to Paris: a week with friends or in hostels and one night in the Library Hotel…That is fine with me, one night in a beautiful place is all I really ever need.
