I don’t know why I thought Sioux Falls, SD was named Sioux Falls… apparently there are actual waterfalls here! When somebody told me this I thought they were crazy, turns out they were right. They’re small falls, but waterfalls none the less.
This town also has a ton of amazing vintage signs. I could probably do a whole Flickr set on just the signs of Sioux Falls. Of course, it will mean remembering I have my camera on me when I walk or drive by one. I don’t know what it is about vintage signs that I love so much.
Also, they’re grocery store chain (the Hy-Vee) is huge! Maybe it has just been a while since I went to a suburban grocery store, but I’d kind of forgotten how much I love the aesthetic of grocery stores: the illusion of plenty, all the perfectly organized multiples of the same thing, the incredibly bright colors. People were looking at me like I was crazy taking photos of the OJ and milk and stuff. If only I was a super hip German like Andreas Gurskey! Frankly, I would like to live in a Gurskey photo.
This weekend I’m heading out west to see Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Monument, Wall Drug and other SD landmarks. I’ll post photos from that trip Monday.
