Crafty Bastards and More

September 29th, 2008 · 1 Comment

This weekend was Crafty Bastards, my favorite craft fair– even better than the ones in LA which I thought were pretty dang good.  I spent the morning sipping coffee with some good friends, wandering amongst the booths (so enraptured with all the creative stuff that I forgot to take photos!) and purchasing a new skirt, [...]

Poetry Friday: “Autumn Came”

September 26th, 2008 · No Comments

AUTUMN CAME
Mula Veereswara Rao
By ripping cheeks,
with cold breeze,
with twitter of sparrows,
Autumn came!
Autumn came to cover
shivering earth
with colorful leaves carpet!
Autumn floats like
sun’s epitaph
Autumn echoed like
farewell song of birds
in the evening!
Autumn touches the
breath of last leaves
on the verge of falling
with warmth!
Autumn challenges the
confidence of the tree
who hides buds in the heart

Still Speaking Out Against SD’s Measure 11

September 24th, 2008 · No Comments

It is nice to see some of my best videos finally going up.  Veronika is a medical student at USD and spoke eloquently and passionately about the importance of keeping the government out of the exam room.
The more I work in the world of reproductive rights the more I repsect people who are willing to [...]

Catching My Eye

September 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Several things around the internet have caught my eye the last couple of weeks.  Hey, if you’re too busy to create at least you can fully appreciate what other people create, right?
There must be something about the season change I see outside my window– I have this bizzare desire to get new clothes, start painting [...]

AriMail for Me!

September 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

Ariel’s last little comment stung just a bit didn’t it?  Of course, it stung because she’s absolutely right.  I’ve been spending entirely too much time worrying about the environment here because it is so much easier to do that than actually be creative.  My feelings weren’t that hurt… not really.
It helped, of course, that very [...]

A Video I didn’t make for PPSD…

September 17th, 2008 · No Comments

When I was in SD I had the chance to meet a woman who worked as an underground abortion counselor in the late 1960s.
Talking to her for an hour I gained so much more respect for what our mother’s generation did for women my age– the women involved in Roe v. Wade worked in similar [...]

The Least Green Weekend

September 15th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I know a few months ago I mentioned trying to have a green road trip… well, this weekend I headed down to Williamsburg, VA with some members of H*yas for Choice to attend a Planned Parenthood Student Organizing conference.  The conference was amazing and inspiring (I wrote about it over on my other blog) but [...]

Poetry Friday: “Late Results”

September 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Late Results
by Scott Cairns
We wanted to confess our sins but there were no takers.
—Milosz
And the few willing to listen demanded that we confess on television.
So we kept our sins to ourselves, and they became less troubling.
The halt and the lame arranged to have their hips replaced.
Lepers coated their sores with a neutral foundation, avoided strong [...]

My Reading List

September 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Although I have Feministing on my blogroll and consistently read Jezebel, I didn’t always quite self-define as a feminist.  I know, that is part of the problem and I need to get comfortable with what it means to self-identify as a Feminist and not be ashamed or whatever.  I know.  Thing is, recently I’ve started [...]

When I Become a Crunchy Hippy…

September 8th, 2008 · No Comments

Yeah, I crossed that line.  I’m making my own granola.  This is from a recipe I found over at Angry Chicken via her recipe cheat sheet.  I wish I was like 1/3 as self-sufficient as she is!  I felt pretty cool eating my own yogurt AND my own granola for breakfast today.  It is pretty [...]
