Thankful, Nostalgic

Not going to lie, one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving (well, that isn’t part of reflecting on how lucky I am and how loved I feel) is the Macy’s Parade.  I know it is kind of corny, and I know that it is a little dull… but, I used to watch it every year with my Mom– she’d run out during the commercial breaks to shove the turkey in the oven, dice onions, or whatever else it is moms do on Thanksgiving morning.

Karen Horton over at Design:Related has several images of vintage Macy’s Parade balloons (found via NotCot).  These are beautiful, a little weird, and fascinating. (more after the jump)

This year Thanksgiving comes right before finals and PhD application deadlines.  Last night I was sitting around feeling a bit sorry for myself, that I wouldn’t be able to craft all day like I’d planned, but this AM I realized how silly that was.  I am so incredibly lucky to be here, at a Big Eastern University, studying what I love and surrounded by funny, smart friends.

So today, I’m going to watch the parade and make my Christmas cards.  Then, once it is over I’ll need to crack the books and type, type, type away on my first final paper of the year.  Hopefully, I’ll remember that this is a privilege and keep the calm, peaceful spirit I woke up with this AM going through the afternoon.

And, thanks to all of you who read this little blog, I’d offer you some pie if I could only figure out how to send it through the monitor.
