This weekend I did a quick embroidery project. The pattern came from Sublime Stitching (this is in the Forest Friends set). It is small, which was nice because I could get it done in about 45 minutes while waiting for Jon before we headed out for our Friday night plans.
I’ve had these hankies since the summer– they were part of my “anti-disposable things” phase as well as something I thought would be cheap and easy to embroider on. They were cheap, just 99 cents at CVS, but they were not great for embroidery. The fabric is really, really thin. Sometimes the stitches made holes too big and you couldn’t really do a full stitch without the thread getting… weird.
We’ll see how well it holds up after one or two uses– I don’t anticipate that this fabric and my still-novice stitches are going to get through more than a few trips through the washer. Also, I’m still unsure what to do on the backs (sorry it is blurry, the camera had a hard time with this). Hopefully it’ll make it through a wash. I suppose I could wash it by hand, but that seems a little silly.
There are lots of other patterns at Sublime Stitching I want to try. I like the iron-on patterns (something you should know about me is that I CANNOT draw. At all, I had an art teacher who once said he’s occasionally met people who just can’t draw and maybe I’m one of them. I think he used the phrase, “the beauty of ineptitude”).
Anyway, so I like the iron on patterns and I bought this pencil that you’re supposed to be able to use to trace things and then iron it on but it didn’t work… not even a little. What pencils/tools do ya’ll use for this? Should I just use carbon paper?
I’d like to embroider some napkins next… we have napkins that are just calling out for a little acorn embellishment.
