It doesn’t look like much now, but this is what’s been keeping me busy. You know, I’ve been so focused on how I haven’t been doing anything artsy, that I’ve forgotten I’ve been doing something really creative– just with words and books and interviews rather than with a needle and thread or paper and glue.
In so many ways, I think what attracts me to my thesis topic (Civil War reenacting), other than that I’m just a huge history nerd, is that reenactors are deeply interested in what happens to land, how to control development, and how to establish a more mindful connection to the past and material objects.
When I’m done, I’ll share my thesis with you here– that way you can know what’s been keeping me so busy these past few months. Also, I’m thinking of using Lulu, since my University does not require paper copies (it is all electronic). Have any of you all worked with them before? I want to give my parents and a few special/extreemly helpful people hardcopies…

Haha — love the highlighted piece. I currently have 24 lines like that in my third chapter, including this one:

Anyway, I’ve ordered a few Creative Commons licensed books off of Lulu, and am very happy with them. Indistinguishable from “real” books, except that the covers have been pretty bland, which I know will both you — not sure how much it costs to customize them.

They have used it here at school. The results look pretty nice and we would have used them again but one of our classmates had a relationship with a printer. You should do it and put in some awesome civil war photos.
