We’re finally really over that nasty flu/cold/sinus infection thing we had last week. Thank heavens, I feel like I lost a week. Do you know it is almost April?! I know. Anyway, today I’m going to share the Neti Pot with you. For the squeamish or those who don’t like mucus it is perhaps best to look away now.
I have a lot of snot in my nose all the time, even when I’m not sick. I’ve been toying around with trying a Neti Pot for a while now but hadn’t had a good reason to spend the $12 on one. On one hand, it does just what I always want to do when I’m sick– wash the gunk out. On the other hand, am I really ready to be that much of a crunch hippy? Apparently I am. Plus, The New York Times (and Oprah) gave them their stamp of approval and “it really works it isn’t just hippy hype.”
So, does the Neti Pot work? I’m not 100% sure. It for sure gets some of the green/yellow gunk out of the way-back part of my sinus. But, there is also part of me that thinks this is the tail end of a cold, so wouldn’t that stuff come out anyway? That said, I’m going to keep using it once a week or so. I totally buy the logic behind it, and the fact that they sell them at CVS and not just at yoga studios or organic food co-ops makes me think that there must be something going on here. I’ll report back on this in a bit…
