It might not be the world’s most beautiful garden, but I’m hoping we get enough herbs from it to justify the $20 I had to spend getting it all ready. I’ve planted basil in the long rectangular pot, some cilantro in the circular pot next to it, and a radish plant in that pot on the floor. We live in an apartment that is… tiny. I mean, I guess it isn’t NYC tiny but for two people with an ungodly number of books and computer equipment and only a few windows not in the bathroom or literally right next to the stove, this is about as much space as I can dedicate to an indoor garden.
I’ve done some research on the Internets and think I’ve got it set up well– pots with holes in the bottoms, some gravel in the bottom, and a sunny spot (and pots small enough that when I’m home I kind of move them around to keep them in the sunlight because I am lonely and my sweetie wont let me have a puppy to nurture).
I have a lot of respect for my friends who garden (and I mean really garden) and I’m not quite sure I’m there yet. Hopefully these herbs will turn out and then I can start thinking about how to do some indoor container gardening (I’d love to grow lettuce). For now, I’m going to get a few books from the library about indoor gardening and think about asking our landlord if I can garden on the roof– so much sunny space that is already open to residents (though not for recreational use, the door is just unlocked).
