I don’t have an ironing board (or even really room for one). Usually I just fold a beach towel a few times, throw it over the dining room table (which I got for $30 from Craig’s List) and hope for the best. So far, it seems to be working. Plus, I find ironing bizarrely relaxing in a way that I never thought I would.
Anyway, I have high hopes to embroider 24 cocktail napkins in the coming months and give them to some friends and family who’ve been extra kind to me in the last year or so. I’m shooting for a few sets of 8. (Or maybe 6, who really needs 8 cocktail napkins these days?)
Sadly, I’m having a hard time getting the patterns to transfer onto the colored napkins. I think they might not be 100% cotton and that is the problem. Lord knows I can’t draw; I had a college art professor once who described my drawing as “the beauty of ineptitude.” So, I’m going to have to get some carbon paper or something (or practice drawing, but the last time I did that I wound up in tears so go figure).
I am about 1/3 done with the stitching on the first napkin and it… is slow going. I think the hours and hours (and hours and hours) I spent typing this semester have made my hands want a break. I’ve been going in 25-30 min stints because after that my old lady hands start to hurt. Yes, perhaps that means I shouldn’t be typing a blog, but really a girl can only give up so much. If I can’t craft I MUST use the Internets.
Frankly, I don’t know if I can take a break from the computer and the crafting. I like to read and all, but 12 hours a day of reading, even for me, gets a bit dull.
