I think the walls in our new apartment (well, and in the old one too– in our building) are plaster and are really, really hard to get nails and/or screws into. So of course, all I want to do is find hip things to make our walls interesting that require nails and screws. At the moment I’m feeling especially attracted to blackboards. So below, a round up of interestng chalkboard projects that I keep thinking maybe we could somehow rig up in our place (if we could figure out a way to just kind of rest them against a wall).
- Painted chalkboard wall calendar (pictured above, via Lifehacker and Martha Stewart Living)
- All the ideas in Apartment Therapy’s “Chalkboard in the Kitchen Roundup“
- Paper Source makes some chalkboard place mats which might itch the blackboard scratch for me…
- Chalkboard plates at LittlePaperHome’s Etsy shop. (This I might be able to use, I could prop it up with a plate stand on top of the bookshelves or something).
- I’m really intrigued by Paper Source’s adhesive Chalkboard frames but I’m always worried that these vinyl wall decals will just look cheap and will ruin the walls (so we’ll lose our deposit).
- Spellitout’s Large Initial Letter Chalkboard (via Etsy).
Plus, with Krylon’s chalkboard spray paint I could probably turn just about anything into a chalkboard… now if only I can figure out what would make a uniqe chalkboard and would take to the spraypaint. I will keep you posted.

Not to be a party pooper/bubble busters, but are you sure you want all that chalk dust in your apt…?

Yeah, I’ve been thinking about that… There is such a thing as “dustless chalk” which is probably what I’d use. And, I mean… how bad would it really be? I’m only thinking that we’ll change the writing now and then. I’m not sure yet, this is a drawback no doubt.
