The Post In Which I Tell You I’m a Genius

So, our apartment has really nice thick walls– great for insulating us from neighbor noise.  Seriously, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve heard our neighbors.  However, these lovely thick, plaster walls are KILLER to hang art on.  Either we have to use really sticky, nasty tape that hurts the prints, posters, and photos we’ve amassed or we have to put nails into the wall (which leaves super visible holes).  Well, this weekend we finally decided to deal with our art after I had a GENIUS brain storm!  After the jump I’ll share my secret to low-impact art hanging in an apartment with plaster walls…

So, what we did is use some heavy-duty Post-It notes.  The sticky part we attached to the back of the poster.  Then, we put painters tape on the side of the sticky note that’d face the wall.  Basically, just think of it as a sticky-note sammich: poster, sticky note sticky side, painter’s tape, wall.  So far, so good.  Nothing has fallen off the wall (I hope I don’t jix it) and only one art piece was thin enough to show the neon paper through– I’m going to try and find a white/beige post it pad for that piece.

Jon also hung up his art… but I didn’t show you any photos.  Not because I don’t like his art but because this is a post about the genius idea I had and not so much about how nice it is to have our art on the walls again.  Honestly, I don’t feel at home until we get things up on the walls.  Books and Art make a home.
