I’ve been known to get a little obsessive with my hobbies. As a case in point, I present these napkins embroidered from a pattern I pulled from Sublime Stitching’s “Craft Pad,” and produced over about 8 hours infront of the television (playing “Law & Order” and “CSI”– really the best shows to craft with). There were big plans to make a set of 4 for my friend Emily’s birthday/job-nepotism (I’m taking her place this week) but two took long enough. I suppose that’s what I get for starting a project at 10 AM that has to be gifted at 9 PM.
Generally I’m happy with how they turned out. The gold floss was kind of tough to work with– it was a hand-me-down from my mom and was just a little “meh,” it split too much so it almost looks like these guys are wearing chainmail. Also, the napkins are a 50-50 cotton-poly blend, which is great in terms of colors but made the fabric super stretchy. I was constantly having to (re)pull it taught across the hoop.
And you thought this blog was just going to be about running, dirt, and movies?! Ha! That 8 hour embroidery session certainly makes me feel like I’ve got my crafting mojo back again. I’m seriously thinking about doing another session this weekend…
