So, I’m thinking of joining in September’s Tie One On. Although I can do some basic sewing I’m really not a very good seamstress– sadly this trait did not run in my family (my mother, as all my friends can attest, is an excellent quilter). So, like with running, I’m going to start with a small goal and an apron is small. I mean, isn’t it basically just a piece of cloth with the edges finished and something to tie it on? Yes, that is exactly what it is and THAT I can do. Plus, there are a ton of free, simple apron patterns online and loads of help for new seamstresses.
At this point I’m mulling over the theme, “plaid,” and trying to decide if I want to go ambitious or just to finish and have something I can say “hey, I made that!” Looking at this piece of fabric over on Etsy and thinking I want to go bright colors rather than stodgy old wool plaid.

Oh, and plus, can we all just admit that Anthropologie makes unbelievably cute aprons but aprons that I’m sure I could make if only I could find fabric cute enough and get over my own fear of screwing up. Frankly, I’d wear their aprons as a dress if I could get away with it.
I know that some people wear aprons as a fashion statement but I’m not quite there yet. I don’t think I really have the attitude for that at this point in my life.
