Poetry Friday: “The Runner”

The Runner
Walt Whitman

On a flat road runs the well-train’d runner,
He is lean and sinewy with muscular legs,
He is thinly clothed, he leans forward as he runs,
With lightly closed fists and arms partially rais’d.

Included in Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass and available online.

My first ever race is this Saturday.  I’m hoping to run right at an 11 min mile and finish the race in about 45 min.  Wish me luck!
