Just a quick hit today- the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum, which I adore and have written about before, offers free desktop wallpapers for the philatelic fan. I’ve got “Owney on a Mail Train” as my desktop background now (above).
Owney is one of my favorite postal history stories, you can watch a video about him at the Smithsonian’s website. Sadly, it doesn’t look like I can embed it. Whenever I’m at the National Postal Museum I have to really, really stop myself from buying all the children’s books about Owney because really, do I need another children’s book
about the mail? Not until I have actual children in my life. Of course, by then, the USPS might be an historic relic…
