Belated Christmas Gift

December 30th, 2009 · No Comments

Better late than never, right? I wanted to get this up first thing this AM but then life got in the way.

Above is the template for my Christmas card envelopes.  Well, it’s really just an envelope template that I happened to use for my Xmas cards but you know what I mean. I [...]

Already Memories…

December 29th, 2009 · No Comments

My goodness… that was fast.  It’s almost 2010?
Like SouleMama, one of my favorite crafty-lady bloggers, I’m a tree-out-the-door on the morning of the 26th kind of girl.  Or, in my case, folded up and put back into its box.  The glitter snowflakes are down and so is the garland.  The wreath will stay on the [...]

Living with(in) Sherlock Holmes

December 28th, 2009 · No Comments

Jon and I went to see Sherlock Holmes this weekend.  It’s a great film if, and only if, you are okay with it being not really anything like the books or the Jeremy Brett version.  Robert Downy Jr. and Jude Law are just too handsome to be Holmes and Watson really– and since when did [...]

Poetry Friday: “The Druids Thought the Mistletoe”

The Druids Thought the Mistletoe
Nicholas Gordon
The Druids thought the mistletoe
Would stop the meanest witches,
Cure the most severe disease,
Keep cradles safe from switches.
Enemies laid down their arms
Beneath its pungent spell.
For one whole day they could not fight,
Though hatred fire the will.
In later centuries it [...]

Happy Holidays from the Muppets and the USPS

December 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

The holidays and an enormous snow storm kept me away from the computer this weekend (and away from everything but family, good books, and red wine).  So, I promise to show you some of the crafty bits I’m working on… but, first, a clip from my favorite Muppet holiday movie: Letters to Santa.  Honestly!  This [...]

Annapolis: A Damp, Delightful Spot

December 14th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Spent 24 hours in Annapolis, MD this weekend–a town that avoided damage during the Revolution and Civil Wars and, as a result, is full of old buildings, graveyards, and historic markers.  We loved just about every cold, rainy, soggy, damp minute of it.  In theory we went up for Jon’s company’s holiday party… but mostly [...]

Poetry Friday: “Dirge Without Music”

December 11th, 2009 · No Comments

Better late than never…

Dirge Without Music
by Edna St. Vincent Millay
I am not resigned to the shutting away of loving hearts in the hard ground.
So it is, and so it will be, for so it has been, time out of mind:
Into the darkness they go, the wise and the lovely.  Crowned
With lilies and with laurel they [...]

R.I.P. Peggy Moore

December 10th, 2009 · No Comments

R.I.P Grandma.  I’ve got lots of good memories of your house in the VA countryside– deer in the creek, warm afternoons in the hammock, learning about gardening in that enormous spot you had.  I know you lived in TX the last 6 years, closer to the family, but I’ll always rememer you in VA, with [...]

Pastel Wreath at Christmas?

December 8th, 2009 · No Comments

This wreath was a lot of fun to put together (and so easy): no sewing at all was involved.  I just cut the fabric into 2 inch strips and pinned it onto a styrofoam wreath frame.  The ribbon is just a basic wired grosgrain ribbon and that glittery branch came from Michael’s.  Wreaths are my [...]
